RHS 318: HUMIDITY AND AEROSOL THERAPY

Course Description:
This course will introduce to the learners the use of medical gases, their specifications and how to deliver them to patients. In addition, the course emphasis on the use of medical gases to deliver different types of treatment modalities such as bland aerosol or drugs suspended in gas. Delivery of medications using other methods will also be discussed. Proper use and care for medication delivery devises will also be covered in this course.
Course Hours:
This course will be conducted on Sunday, 10- 11:50 am
Course Goals:
- • Learn how medical gases are stored and delivered to patients.
- • Learn the proper use of different medical gases delivery devices.
- • Learn the need and proper use of bland aerosol, humidity and medications in aerosol form.
- • Learn the proper use and care for medication delivery devices.
Course Requirements:
- 1. Read the assignments due for each class period.
- 2. Attend class.
- 3. Complete other required assignments.
- 4. Complete and pass block exams and final exam (60% or higher on each exam is required).
Exam Policy:
Students are expected to take the examinations at the scheduled date and time. If a student must miss an examination due to illness or an unforeseen problem, it is the student’s responsibility to contact the instructor in advance to make other arrangements.
Attendance:
Attendance is mandatory. Students who miss more than 25% of the course will not be allowed to take the final exam unless there is a legitimate reason and the reason was discussed with the instructor earlier.

- 2. Cairo and Pilbeam. Mosby’s Respiratory Care Equipment, 8th ed. St. Louis, Mosby, 2010.
Grading:
This course will be graded on percentage. The minimum passing score is 60%.
Challenging conditions:
If you have a challenging condition and need assistant, contact the instructor to make the proper arrangement.

Grade will be based on the following:
ATTENDANCE & PARTICIPATION 10%
BLOCK I EXAM 15%
BLOCK II EXAM 15%
ASSIGNMENTS & Quizzes 10%
Lab Evaluation 10%
FINAL 40%
Course Schedule:
Reading assignments should be supplemented with Egan’s fundamentals. They must be read in preparation for the assigned topic. Minor changes may occur and will be discussed ahead of time. In case of changes to the schedule, assignments’ due dates will be adjusted accordingly.
