Course Description


The Strategic Management course will focus on formulating and implementing organization’s strategy by analyzing its internal and external environment; these analysis will lead the organization to success when it comes out with actionable strategies that can be successfully implemented. Otherwise, wrong strategy will not help the best administrators to achieve superior performance. This will also require resources and capabilities; therefore the course will focus on the analytical and managerial tasks involved in developing strategies that create value to all stakeholders and satisfying customer demand in an ever-changing competitive environment. It will also attempt to help students to improve their strategic thinking and all around business judgment.


 


Course Objectives


Strategic Management course examines the process by which managers establish an organization's long-term direction, set specific performance objectives, develop strategies to achieve these objectives and undertake to execute the chosen action plans. Therefore the course aims to the following:


1. Develop the capacity of strategic thinking and provide a detailed understanding of the concepts of strategic management, organization’s external and internal environments, and organization strategy


2. Understanding of the nature of business competition and build skills in conducting strategic analysis in a variety of industries and competitive situations.


3. Get hands-on experience in crafting business strategy; prepare students for careers in business and develop powers of managerial judgment.


 


Learning Outcomes


By the end of the course, students should be able to:


§   Explain the strategic management concepts


§   Become aware of the importance of ethical principles, personal and company values, and socially responsible management practices.


§   Understand the impact of the internal and external environments of an organization on organization performance.


§   Apply analytical frameworks to define and analyze strategic problems; and to formulate and implement business strategies.


§   Explain complex business opportunities and problems and develop a clear understanding of the competitive challenges of a market environment.


§   Demonstrate effective communication skills.


 


Teaching & Learning Activities


§   Instructor will deliver the lectures on major concepts and issues and student will be asked to prepare for these lectures.


§   Students will be required to write a case report to assess business strategies of an organization of their choice.


§   Students will be asked to actively participate in all class and cases discussions and share recent company news with other students.


§   Instructor will be available to address students’ questions and they are encouraged to discuss questions with the instructor.
