Course description

The aim of the course is to help the students to pronounce English better. The students in this course will learn the symbols of the sounds of English using the International Phonetic Alphabet (IPA) system. They will also learn how sounds are produced and what organs of speech are involved in the production of each sound. Furthermore, the students will be taught how to transcribe and pronounce English words and how to apply stress appropriately.

 

Course Objectives (i.e. Learning Outcomes as specified in the Course Specifications)

Students should be able to:

1. Recognize sounds 

2. Distinguish between different sounds 

3. Classify sounds using phonological terminology

4. Transcribe English words using the IPA

5. Correctly pronounce English words
