Islamic Translation

The course aims at equipping students with the skills of practical translation from Arabic into the target language and vice versa of texts in the following branches of Islamic Studies: The Holy Quran, the teaching and biography of the Prophet (peace be upon him), jurisprudence, Da’wah and guidance, economics and Islamic media. Special emphasis is laid on developing students’ skills of speed, accuracy and fidelity. Students should be aware of the lexical features of Islamic terms and the need for special care in finding equivalents for them in the target language. They will be introduced to specialized dictionaries of direct relevance. They should also be made aware of the stylistic features of religious discourse.
