Translation of Legal Texts الترجمة في المجالات القانونية

In this course, students are expected to cover a wide range of texts pertaining to the legal fields and its sub-fields. The main focus is placed on resolving the various problems and difficulties encountered in these fields, with a special focus on terminology and structure, as well as the distinct features of each text type.

The main objective of this course is to introduce students to a variety of legal texts and train them to translate specialized legal texts between English and Arabic by implementing few translation strategies (e.g. Shifting). In addition, students are exposed to the different types of texts within the legal genre, the features of legal language, legal systems and relevant terminology and expressions. In this course, students are given the opportunities to evaluate, compare and analyze published translations (e.g. UN conventions). This help students to highlight accurate translations and suggest better translations.
