Course module description:
Writing 4 trains students to produce short academic essays. It focuses on thesis statement and angle, balance, anticipation of readers’ reactions. Students are encouraged to generate thought, to develop stylistic and critical awareness. They are encouraged to observe the major stages in the writing process, namely pre-writing, drafting, revising, and editing.
Course module objectives:
*. Improving students’ written performance by encouraging them to express themselves in writing on various everyday topics.
*. Providing students with feedback on their writing skill by drawing their attention to similarities and differences between styles of writing in English and Arabic, if needed.
*. To further the students’ ability to write full-length academic essays, and to refine their writing techniques and command of vocabulary and complex syntactic patterns.
*. To reinforce the idea of a thesis statement, including a topic and angle.
*. To illustrate means of introducing material to support argument.
*. Students are also required to do library and online research in order to gather material and write a research paper.
