The course describes the medicinal chemistry of an important class of drugs that act on the CNS. The therapeutic agents that are used to treat many of the CNS-based disorders shall be studied such as antipsychotic agents, sedatives, hypnotics, antidepressants, analgesics and general anesthetics. General information and dangers of drug abuse shall be illustrated. The course will expose the students to the study of SAR, mechanism of actions and metabolism of these agents.

Course Description:

The course covers an in-depth knowledge of organic chemistry with particular emphasis on the synthesis, reactions, mechanism of reactions and stereochemistry of organic molecules. The chemistry of heterocyclic compounds shall be detailed. The importance of different organic classes in nature and in pharmaceutical and chemical industries will be outlined. The laboratory period deals with the identification of different classes of organic compounds based on differences in their physicochemical properties.

Course Description:

The course is designed to provide the students with the essential fundamentals of medicinal chemistry. The course is focused on the physicochemical properties of drug molecules and the effects those properties have on absorption, distribution, metabolism and interaction with a receptor to give a physiological response. The course also covers fundamental principles of drug metabolism. 

This course covers basic and advanced topics of software requirements engineering. In addition to the general course content, the student must undergo reading of several research papers and present it in the class. There is also a final report preparation which the student prepare as a scientific research paper with the potential of publishing it in a scientific venue.
