Feed efficiency is an economically important trait in aquaculture, which can be measured traditionally as feed
conversion ratio (FCR). Because of the difficult measurement, genome-wide selection using quantitative trait
loci (QTLs) affecting FCR may be an alternative for genetic improvement. In the present investigation, QTLs for
FCR based on two mapping panels (mirror carp and hybrid carp panels) were found in common carp (Cyprinus

Newcastle disease (ND) is a major infectious disease of the poultry caused by a virulent strain of Avian Paramyxovirus – 1, that is a single strand non-segmented negative sense RNA virus. ND virus is major threat to the poultry industry in many countries of the world. The study was aimed to isolate and identify Newcastle disease virus (NDV) by using a haemagglutination inhibition (HI) test and reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) assay. A total 100 samples of infected and dead birds were collected from different poultry farms.

Fibroblast growth factors (FGFs) are a large family of polypeptide growth factors, which are found in organisms
ranging fromnematodes to humans. In vertebrates, a number of FGFs have been shown to play important roles in
developing embryos and adult organisms. Among the vertebrate species, FGFs are highly conserved in both gene
structure and amino-acid sequence. However, studies on teleost FGFs are mainly limited tomodel species, hence
we investigated FGFs in the common carp genome.
