CHS 269 (nutritional epidemiology)

The purpose of this course is to introduce student to the basic concepts of nutritional epidemiology, its goals and objectives as well as its advantages and disadvantages. Measurement of diet in epidemiologic studies, nutritional surveillance and monitoring as well as studies used in nutritional epidemiology will be included. The course will also cover the epidemiology of some nutrition related health problems e.g. cardiovascular disease, diabetes and obesity.   
 

CHS 413 (substance abuse)

This course helps students identify patterns of drug using behavior, explain types of dependence producing drugs and predict the type of drug abused according to the health problem  . Besides, this course spots  light on how to design and perform a plan of drug health education program
 

Health Sciences

This course aims at introducing students to health education and promotion concepts. The concept of preventive medicine and levels of prevention, the value of health and prevention of diseases, healthy society, healthy individuals and normal body mechanisms will be discussed to highlight for the students the health promotion concepts.

CHS 224 (Demography) This course introduces the basic techniques of demographic analysis. Students will become familiar with the sources of data available for demographic research. Population composition and change measures will be presented. Measures of mortality, fertility, marriage and devorce levels and patterns will be defined.

The course discusses the contribution of behavioral sciences in health education and promotion. It explores the social determinants of health and investigates the notions of health & illness, group-structure, culture, leadership, social support and socialization. The course also discusses the approaches to social change. Furthermore, it introduces a number of theories such as the theory of general susceptibility of disease

This course helps students to acquire the knowledge and skills of different steps of planning, implementing and evaluating health education and promotion program in a variety of settings in which health education programs occur. Different planning models will be approached as well as their application. The main elements of the planning process, including problem analysis, strategy/intervention selection, setting objectives, program implementation and program evaluation should be discussed
