Preserving esthetics, occlusion and occlusal vertical dimension in a patient with fixed prostheses seeking dental implant treatment

The preservation of esthetics and occlusal vertical dimension is critical in patients with existing full-arch tooth-retained fixed prostheses. This clinical report describes the provision of a maxillary immediate complete denture in a patient with a maxillary full-arch fixed dental prosthesis over nonviable teeth. The existing fixed dental prosthesis was used in the fabrication of the maxillary immediate complete denture to preserve esthetics. The technique involved recording and preservation of the occlusal vertical dimension and occlusion of the existing prosthesis.

Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease (GERD): A Case Study

Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease (GERD) has different signs and symptom depending on the severity of the disease. One of the early signs is dental erosion. It results from reflux of the gastric contents into the oral cavity. Dental erosion can cause teeth sensitivity, dental caries, lost vertical dimension and dental aesthetic problems. To restore the function and the aesthetic of the oral cavity, full mouth rehabilitation is sometimes indicated. The current case report is about a 45-year-old male who was diagnosed with GERD resulting in dental erosion.

The Impact of Expasyl® Gingival Retraction Paste on the Bond Strength of Self-etch and Total-etch Systems

Objective:To evaluate the influence of Expasyl® gingival retraction paste on the shear bond strength of self-etch and total-etch adhesive systems.

Materials and Method:Twenty-four specimens of extracted, caries-free, sound human molars were used in this study. The molars were then cut vertically into halves through the buccal and lingual cusps. Forty-eight specimens were divided into four groups (total-etch, total-etch with Expasyl application, self-etch, self-etch with Expasyl application) and the shear bond strength was tested.

Accuracy of Interchangeable Implant Impression Systems: An In Vitro Pilot Study

Purpose:To evaluate the accuracy of impressions on changing the implant component (coping and abutment replica) between Brånemark and BIOMET 3i and between Straumann and Allfit.

The oral health-related quality of life in edentulous patients treated with Conventional complete dentures

Objective:To compare the oral health-related quality of life (OHRQoL) between patients with both maxillary and mandibular complete denture and those with either the maxillary or the mandibular complete denture.

Background:Satisfaction of denture wearers can be estimated using the OHRQoL questionnaires like the OHIP-EDENT and the Geriatric Oral Health Assessment Index (GOHAI).

Methods:Two questionnaires were used to compare the OHRQoL between edentulous patients who had conventional removable complete denture on both jaws and those who had on either one of the jaws.

Aesthetic dental practices by dental and prosthodontic practitioners in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia

Background: The level of aesthetic requirement in clinical practice has increased over the past decade, and this has made it necessary for dentists to constantly update themselves to meet the existing demand in this field.

Aim: The goal of this study was to assess the practice of aesthetic dentistry at the clinics by general practitioners (GPs) and prosthodontists.

Effect of Gingival Retraction Materials on the Physical Properties of Polyvenyl Siloxane (PVS) Impression Material

Purpose: This was conducted to evaluate the effects of Expasyl and Hemox - A on the setting time and tear strength on polyvenyl siloxanes Impression materials.
Materials and Method: 60 specimens of PVS impression materials were tested using Oscillating Rheometer to measure setting time; 20 specimens were contaminated with expasyl, another 20 specimens were contaminated with Hemox - A and 20 specimens were included as the control group. 60 specimens of PVS impression material were tested using Instron machine to measure tear strength.

Gingival Retraction Techniques and Materials: A Review

Accurate final impression of the prepared teeth is of extreme importance for successful fixed
prosthetic restorations. One of the problems appearing in the process of the impression making is the
marginal details. A number of materials and methods have been described in literature for the
retraction of gingival tissue. This article outlines the knowledge available from previously published
studies and discusses the currently popular materials and methods used in gingival retraction.
