ENG 492: History of the English Language (تاريخ اللغة الإنجليزية)
This is an introductory course that provides an enlightening view of how historical events in England have affected and caused changes in the English language throughout different periods. First, the course reviews the political, social, and intellectual factors that have determined the development of the language and closely looks into its internal structure in each period. Second, it focuses on the genetic hypothesis (the discovery of Sanskrit and the Proto-Indo-European family), sound laws, and loanwords.
