Course Title:		Management of Physical Therapy Services
Course Number:		RHS 423
Credit Hours:		2 Theory
Course Instructors:		Dr. zianab AL.Khudairi  (for female students).
Course Description:This course introduces the students to business communication, departmental design specifications, record keeping, equipment purchasing, report writing, policy and procedure manuals, supervision and evaluation of staff.
Course Objectives: Upon the completion of this course, students should have a clear understanding of the followings:
·        Who are physical therapists and what do they do? ·        Health care system. ·        Organizational structure of hospital and for physical therapy services. ·        Personnel management. ·        Elements of patient/client management. ·        Planning.
Course Outline:
Week 1:	·    Introduction:
-      Definition of management (What is management?). -      Distinction between hospitals and any other organization. -      Who are physical therapists and what do they do?
Week 2:	·    Principles of Hospital Administration:
-      Patient care of high quality. -      Effective community orientation. -      Economic viability. -      Sound architectural plan.
Week 3:	·    Pre-planning:
-      Aim of pre-planning. -      Factors to be considered during pre-planning.
Week 4:	·    Management Process:
-      Management skills. -      Functions of management process (planning and organizing).
Week 5:	·    Management Process:
-      Functions of management process (Directing, coordinating and controlling).
Week 6:	·    Organization:
-      Definition of organization with specific definition for hospital organization. -      Dimensions of organization.
Week 7:	1st Midterm Examination.
Week 8:	·    Delegation:
-      Definition of delegation. -      Elements of delegation. -      Values of delegation.			-      Prerequisites of delegation. -      Barriers of delegation.
Week 9:	·    Delegation (cont.):
-      What and what not to delegate? -      Recipients of delegation.			-    How to delegate? -    How to control delegation?
Week 10:	·    Hospital Personnel:
-      Organization of hospital personnel. -      Functions of personnel department.
Week 11:	·    Hospital Records:
-      Definition of records. -      Types of records. -      Purposes of records. -      Problem oriented medical record.
Week 12:	·    Communication:
-      Definition of communication. -      Characteristics of health communication climate. -      Factors affecting communication. -      Factors improving communication.
Week 13:	·    Physical Therapy Department.
Week 14:	2nd Midterm Examination.
Week 15:	·    General Revision.
Teaching Methods:		1.     Lectures. 2.     Group Discussion.
Grading:		Midterm Exams: 60% Final Exam: 40%
