Study Abstract
  This study aimed to learn about the status of knowledge management in government universities through a field survey of faculty at King Saud University (KSU). It specifically aimed to explore the extent to which these faculty perceive the concept and importance of knowledge management, its acquisition and generation, and subsequently the storing, improving and dissemination of this knowledge. The study also aimed to explore the main obstacles facing the implementation of knowledge management at KSU, if any, and their solutions.
   To achieve the objectives of the study, the descriptive-analytic method was used through the design of a questionnaire consisting of two parts. The first part contains personal data, which include gender, age, number of years of service, and academic rank, while the second part includes six key dimensions.
   The main findings showed that the participants in the sample generally agreed on all items addressing the perception of the concept and importance of knowledge management. The findings also showed that the university strives to acquire and generate knowledge by attracting qualified individuals, and to improve this knowledge by developing the skills of its staff through encouraging them to join in-house training programs. Finally, the study found a number of obstacles to the ideal implementation of knowledge management. One of the most important of these was the lack of contentment and support from the university’s higher administration regarding the importance of knowledge management. The study suggested a number of solutions, which mainly included offering incentives to creative ideas.
   The study concluded with a number of recommendations, which included the need for a leadership that supports the strategy of knowledge management, in addition to the creation of an administrative unit that deals with knowledge management, and which is incorporated into the organizational structure of the university. Finally, the study calls upon researchers and scholars to shed light on knowledge management through more research.
