ABSTRACT:
Illegal immigration can be considered to be a phenomenon of geography which is characterized by population throughout ages as they move from one area to another, hoping to improve their quality of lives. In other words, this kind of immigrations is almost from countries of lower socioeconomic levels to another of higher levels. These immigrations are mostly temporary, in which immigrants decide not to leave their own original countries completely so they work in the migrated destination where they have an opportunity to save some money and then return back to native countries to become significant in their societies.
With the increasing gap between the northern rich countries of the Mediterranean and the southern poor countries, migration flows have been increased from south to north, in other words from developing countries to developed ones. So the illegal labor rates have been increased in France, as one of the north-rich developed countries, especially to the city of Marseille by some Arab countries for reasons analyzed in the study, despite of political and security terms imposed by the European Union countries to reduce this phenomenon.
The study aims to explain the illegal Arab immigration to the city of Marseille which is the main port of France on the Mediterranean coast and analyze this phenomenon to find out its motives and results and what problems might be caused by.
The study depends on a case study of a random sample of illegal Arab immigrants (without papers) about 1250 persons who work in different jobs and distribute to the area of the city in 2010 through a model questionnaire distributed according to the population size of administrative districts of the city.
